Did you invest in a Nalgene bottle to spare the environment of unnecessary disposable plastic water bottle waste? Good for you! Now let’s cover how to maintain that purchase, which involves only a bit of care. They’re marketed for being virtually indestructible, leaving you with the simple task of cleaning and drying the Nalgene bottle in between uses.

Using the dishwasher

This may be the easiest way to clean your Nalgene bottle. The majority of them are dishwasher-safe, according to the manufacturer, so check your model number to be sure, and then chuck it in and forget about it. You might want to wedge it in the rack upside down so that the bottle gets the full benefit of the wash cycle.

Soaking it in warm, soapy water

You can either throw the water bottle in a sink filled with warm, soapy suds, or you can fill the water bottle itself with a small amount of a mild soap and a lot of warm water. Leave the bottle to soak, shake it a few times, drain of soapy water, rinse, and you’re set! Especially if you use your bottle for water and other non-staining liquids, this method is easy and should do the trick. Washing immediately after use will give you the best results and most peace of mind. Just let it dry before using again.

Getting a Bottle Brush

Buying a soft-bristled bottle brush is another option here. If you want to know that your bottle is really clean, then a brush allows you to gently scour the inner surface of the bottle. This is normally not an option for all Nalgenes due to their shape and the bottleneck opening, so getting a brush is a good idea if you put your bottle through heavy use. Use with warm, soapy water and dry as above.

So, now that you know how easy it is to take care of your Nalgene, go have fun! These bottles are a great way to stay hydrated while also cleaning your conscience, and they’re pretty darn easy to clean, too, even if you’re afraid of germs. Try to get into the routine of carrying one with you wherever you’re going, and it’ll soon become second-nature to you. Trust me, I use mine wherever I go, and cleaning has become far less work than I would have expected. Happy adventures, wherever you may go!

A question rarely posed to flask users is how to clean them out. “Drink it” seems to be the consensus, but what to do after the enjoyment seems to be of much debate. Cleaning your flask isn’t a difficult undertaking, regardless of which technique you choose. And no, buying more to drink isn’t an option.

Vinegar

If soap and water isn’t getting the smell and taste out of the flask, pour two teaspoons of white vinegar into it followed by hot water. Shake the flask with the two substances in it to ensure its complete cleanliness, then rinse with hot water. The smell of your last drink will be neutralized, and the taste left from the vinegar will cure the urge to drink.

Baking Soda

The same concept as vinegar, using baking soda will achieve the same effect. Two teaspoons will suffice; pour it into the opening with hot water, close the flask, and shake it up. Make sure you rinse well, or your next drink won’t have as much of a kick to it.

Brushing

To achieve a more thorough cleaning, a toothbrush or baby bottle brush can be used. Depending on the width of the opening, either tool can help you scrub away the scent. Shake some baking soda on the tip of the brush and run hot water over the opening while you scrub to leave as little evidence as possible. For any of the methods using water, don’t attempt to towel dry; flip the flask upside down in the sink with the top open to let it drain before using it again.

Stainless Steel Cleaner

Not recommended for internal cleaning (for obvious reasons), stainless steel cleaner will give your flask a “just like new” shine. The cleaner can be purchased at any store that carries cleaning products, and can be used for other household products. Using a soft cloth that you’re not too attached to, dab some of the cleaner onto the cloth and rub it on the flask in a circular motion until it shines the way you want it to.

If none of these techniques work for your flask, only two recommendations remain- use a glass or shot glass next time, or get weaker spirits. 100% proof doesn’t prove anything but difficult if you expect a clean flask. No matter what method you use to clean your flask, it would be better utilized if full. Better enjoyed as well, surely.

There are many of us who swear we couldn’t get going in the beginning of the day without our daily, morning cup of coffee. Seeing as how so many of us are in the ritual of drinking coffee every day, as we hurriedly get ready in the morning, I’m sure most of us have had an accident involving a coffee stain on our clothes. Most of the time you probably don’t even notice it until you’re actually at work, or the coffee spills on you at work. Regardless of where it happens, getting out your coffee stain is a real possibility and there are a few different ways you can achieve that.

As soon as you notice a coffee stain on your clothes you want to rinse it or dab it with cold water. The dryer the coffee stain gets, the more it’s setting in, which makes your chances of being able to remove it much less likely.

If you’re at home and you have a stain remover handy, rinse the stain and apply your stain remover and let it set before washing it. If you take your garment out of the washer and the coffee stain is not removed, do not put it in the dryer, you will set the stain if you dry it before getting the stain completely out.

If you don’t have a stain remover, baking soda, vinegar and club soda can help take out the stain as well. The biggest trick to not letting a coffee stain set and to being able to removing it is not letting the coffee stain dry. Try to rinse it immediately. If it does dry, you can try to pour boiling water over the stain depending on the fabric type before applying a pre-wash stain remover. Stain removers which can be found at just about any store that carries laundry supplies are usually your best bet in removing coffee stains.

Stains are easier to get out of certain fabrics more so than others and some fabric is more delicate making it harder to treat.
Just try to take it easy and enjoy your cup of coffee to try to reduce spillage and eliminate the need for coffee stain removal.
